Vortex Media Executive Chairman Bill Marks officially launches its summer production slate in Windsor
BuzzFlix will produce four 90-minute family entertainment productions in Windsor this summer, creating paid employment and hands-on training opportunities for emerging young filmmakers and creatives. The initiative is expected to spend more than $1.8 million directly on youth employment as part of an overall Ontario production spend of approximately $8 million.
Designed as a practical pathway into the screen industry, BuzzFlix gives young people the opportunity to work on real productions alongside experienced Canadian and international film professionals. Participants will gain on-set experience across multiple departments, including production, camera, wardrobe, sound, art department, post-production and more.
“BuzzFlix is built around a simple idea: the best way to learn how to make movies is to make them,” said Bill Marks, Executive Chairman of Vortex Media and founder of BuzzFlix. “We’re creating paid opportunities for young people to gain real-world experience, build confidence and work alongside industry mentors on professional productions. Windsor is an ideal home for this launch, and we’re thrilled to be bringing this level of production activity and youth employment to the region.”
The first BuzzFlix production, SUPERSTAR, is scheduled to begin filming in Windsor later this month, with additional productions to follow throughout the summer. The full slate includes stories centred on youth, identity, reputation, digital culture, acceptance and entrepreneurship.
