After a terrifying encounter with a massive Great White at his home beach Gold Cone Piece Award Winner Brett Burcher went on a mission to find out more about sharks, shark encounters, attacks and what we can do about sharing space with these creatures in a way that doesn’t result in fear, maiming or death. His first guest is Dr Chris Lowe, a renowned Professor of Marine Biology and director of the Shark Lab at California State University Long Beach.

These conversations are the long form interviews conducted for Burch and Andrew Kaineder’s upcoming documentary Crossing the Tideline due out in 2027.

Simon Zuvich is an Yindjibarndi (in-ji-barn di) man with Croatian and Australian ancestry from South-West Australia. He works in education and adult learning, and holds down a role with the WSL and not for profit Aboriginal groups. 

The Tangata Whenua ("People of the Land") Crew II is Ain't That Swell's Asia-Pasifika culture and identity program. You can find the original Tangata Whenua Crew on Koori Radio 93.7 FM Live and Deadly from 2-4 pm Saturday.

In 2023 Brett Burcher had a very lucky escape when a massive Great White shark stalked and then charged him while surfing his home beach. The entire encounter was caught on drone and is so off chops it's hard to believe he didn't sell it to the highest bidder for a run on the nightly news. Instead, he used it as an anchor point for a new documentary and podcast series that we'll be sharing with you right here on Ain't That Swell.
