AFL criticised for not protecting players from long-term concussion damage

View descriptionShare

The AFL has announced it wants to lead the sporting industry in concussion management as the league faces a landmark class action seeking compensation for the damage allegedly suffered from concussion by AFL players.

Margalit Injury Lawyers managing principal Michel Margalit told Jo McManus on 6PR Afternoons the AFL needs to do more to protect players.

Concussion Legacy Foundation Australia director and concussion researcher Dr Alan Pearce believe players need more than 12 days off before they can return to the game.

Dr Pearce told Jo McManus on 6PR Afternoons it can take a month for the brain to heal from a concussion.
