The AFL boss has formally announced Tasmania will be home to the League's 19th team.

The AFL men’s team is expected to enter the competition in 2028, with a women’s team entry to be worked through shortly.

AFL Chief Executive Gillon McLachlan described it as a "historic" day for football, saying Tasmania "belongs" in the national competition.

Later this year a community campaign will select the brand of the new Club including Name, Logo, Guernsey and song.
