When is the right age for parents to introduce alcohol to adolescents?

View descriptionShare

Research from Flinders University explored parents' perspectives towards supplying alcohol to their underage children.

The survey interviewed more than 1,000 Australian parents and found that 40 per cent believed 17 years old was the right age for an alcoholic drink.

Director of the National Centre for Education and Training on Addiction at Flinders University Professor Jacqueline Bowden told Dean Miller on 4BC Afternoons, "The good news is that adolescent alcohol consumption is decreasing."

"What we're wanting parents to know is that them facilitating adolescent drinking is not a good idea," Professor Bowden continued.
