Those attending the eighth edition of the Africities Summit in Marrakesh Morocco have expressed the need for Africa to take charge of their own economies and create the necessary spaces for people to benefit. The summit, is in its second day, thousands of delegates from and around the continent and further afield have gathered at this important meeting of local governments in Africa. The summit will zoom in on sustainable development in African cities. Among those in attendance is Aminata Sy from Burkina Faso, who is the Director of Spatial Planning at the African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA). She says, it is about time that Africa realises and optimises on the opportunities it has to offer.
