Zambia will hold elections in just over a week’s time amidst an on-going economic crisis and rising political tensions. President Edgar Lungu is up against long-time opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema and like the last election; it is expected to be a tight race.
Meanwhile, at least two people have been killed in pre-election violence in the Southern African country where pockets of violence have been reported in the capital, Lusaka, as well as northern, southern provinces where supporters of the governing Patriotic Front (PF) and the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) have clashed using machetes, axes, slathers, catapults and other objects.
