The Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa (Contralesa) has called for Ancestor's Day to be declared a national public holiday.

They say the day will acknowledge African spirituality and be celebrated with ceremonies and rituals that honour the ancestors.

Ancestors Day was celebrated at the Cradle of Human Kind in Mogale City, west of Johannesburg, through music, art and talks in which homage was paid to the diversity of African Spirituality.

To assist us with this African Dialogue presenter Benjamin Moshatama spoke to Dr Mathole Motshekga, founder of the Kara Heritage Institute.
