Zambia's President Hakainde Hichilema has suspended three top judges over alleged judicial misconduct, prompting accusations of political interference in the judiciary.

The three Constitutional Court judges previously dismissed President Hichilema's petition, in which he challenged the election victory of former President Edgar Lungu. Futhermore the trio took part in a controversial ruling allowing Lungu to stand for the 2021 elections, despite having served two terms as Zambia's president.

Zambia President suspends three top judges

A school principal based in South Africa's (SA)  North West province has been awarded the presidential long service award and special recognition for his incredible leadership by the South African Principals Association.

The organisation which has a foot print in Africa and internationally aims to develop educators to perform better in their schools. Isaac Pila's award comes as several provinces are in the predicament of having to slash spending because the national government did not increase funding for provincial departments to cater for the 7-point-5 percent wage increase for public servants for the 2023/24 and 2024/25 financial years.

Pila says his involvement in the community has contirbuted to learners' positive behaviour...

The African Union Commission (AUC) and its partners are hosting the first African Social Security Institutions Co-ordination and Co-operation Forum in Midrand, Johannesburg in South Africa (SA).

The forum seeks to foster dialogue among stakeholders and promote transparency, ensuring public accountability for social security advancements in Africa.

To discuss this further Lulu Gaboo spoke to Dr Sabelo Mbokazi Head of Labour, Employment and Migration Division at the AUC.

Head of the Peacebuilding Interventions Programme at the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation Professor Tim Murithi says the United Nation's (UN) Chater should be re-written to better address current issues and to be in line with the ever changing times.

One of the principles of the charter is "To achieve international co-operation in solving international problems of an economic, social, cultural, or humanitarian character, and in promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and for fundamental freedoms for all without distinction to race, sex, language, or religion".
