Ugandan opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye's treason trial is continuing in absentia at the High Court in Kampala. His People's Front for Freedom (PFF) party has called for all charges against him to be dropped following testimony by a key state witness, Andrew Wilson, also known as VJ Orlando. PFF Secretary General Harold Kaija says the witness testified that allegations that Besigye entered a Riverside apartment in Kenya with a gun were stage-managed.

Meanwhile, Nairobi activists, led by human rights defender Julius Kamau, were arrested on Monday while protesting outside the Ugandan Embassy over Besigye's continued detention.
