The Harare City Council to demolish over 5 000 houses built on supposedly illegal settlements

View descriptionShare

The Harare City Council has announced that it plans to demolish more than 5,000 houses built on supposedly illegal settlements. The targeted houses are mostly in high-density suburbs such as Kuwadzana, Budiriro, Glen View, and Mabvuku and were built on land reserved for public amenities like schools and clinics. Harare City Mayor, Jacob Mafume says the planned demolitions are in line with 37 High Court orders obtained by the City Council and private individuals to evict illegal settlers. Samora Mangesi spoke to a Registered Legal Practitioner of the Superior Courts of Zimbabwe, Lenon Itai Rwizi
