The Black River Interest Group is calling for a halt to the private development of the graves of the Khoi and San people at the black river cemetery, a heritage burial site in South Africa's Western Cape Province.

The organisation is accusing the Anglican church of unilaterally exhuming the Black River Cemetery back in 2017, without informing many families of the deceased or consulting the Garlandale community, who opposed the move. Over 600 people have so far signed petitions against the exhumation, while only 12 attended the church's consultation meeting, where they were pressured into supporting the profit plan.
