The Nelson Mandela Children's Fund In partnership with Deloitte has launched the 2023 State of the Child Report .With the 20th of November marked as World Children's Day, The Nelson Mandela Children's Fund aims to address the challenges that are faced by millions of South African children and raise awareness about the importance of protecting children, particularly those in ultra-vulnerable populations, from environmental threats in their informal dwellings, which often lack basic amenities and infrastructure, particularly in impoverished communities.

It is estimated that there are over 4 million children living below the poverty line in South Africa, meaning they lack the basic necessities across at least three out of seven deprivation areas such as nutrition or clean water.
