South Africa's (SA) Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) delivered its judgment in the legal dispute between the family of former Zambian President Edgar Lungu and the Zambian government. The family is challenging an earlier ruling by the Pretoria High Court, which ordered that Lungu's remains be repatriated to Zambia for a state funeral and burial, despite the family's wish for him to be laid to rest privately in South Africa.

The SCA's ruling is expected to provide clarity on the competing claims of the family's rights and the Zambian state's interest in honouring its former head of state.
