South Africa's (SA) Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) delivered its judgment in the legal dispute between the family of former Zambian President Edgar Lungu and the Zambian government. The family is challenging an earlier ruling by the Pretoria High Court, which ordered that Lungu's remains be repatriated to Zambia for a state funeral and burial, despite the family's wish for him to be laid to rest privately in South Africa.

The SCA's ruling is expected to provide clarity on the competing claims of the family's rights and the Zambian state's interest in honouring its former head of state.

Malawi and fellow SADC member states have adopted a crucial report on the political situation in Madagascar, while approving the deployment of a regional goodwill mission to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to bolster peace and stability.

These decisions were finalised on Monday during an Extraordinary Summit of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Organ Troika on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation, which was hosted virtually by Malawi.

Kenya's High Court has found Health Cabinet Secretary, Aden Duale, in contempt of court for failing to comply with an order halting the construction of a U.S.-funded Ebola quarantine facility at an air force base in central Kenya.

The ruling comes amid public protests over the project, which is intended to accommodate U.S. citizens who may be exposed to Ebola during outbreaks in the neighbouring countries of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. President William Ruto has defended the initiative, arguing that Kenya has a right to partner with the United States on the facility as part of the country's broader disease preparedness and response strategy.

South Africa (SA) and the European Union (EU) have reaffirmed the importance of their strategic partnership amid growing global uncertainty. This follows the 17th SA-EU Joint Cooperation Council meeting held in Pretoria, where officials reviewed progress in political and economic cooperation.

 SA's Department of International Relations and Cooperation's Director-General, Zane Dangor, said recent high-level engagements between South Africa and EU leaders demonstrate a shared commitment to collaboration, trade and multilateralism in an increasingly complex global environment.
