The Western Cape High Court in South Africa (SA) is set to hear President Cyril Ramaphosa's urgent application seeking to stop Parliament's Section 89 impeachment process from proceeding.

Ramaphosa is asking the court to suspend the proceedings pending the outcome of his legal challenge to the report by the Section 89 Independent Panel, which found that he had a prima facie case to answer in connection with the Phala Phala farm matter. 

The panel was established after the Constitutional Court ruled that Parliament's previous rules for initiating impeachment proceedings were unconstitutional and that a process under Section 89 of the Constitution should be followed.
