SADC Health Ministers discuss  Mpox, Malaria, HIV/AIDS and other outbreaks in the region 

Cybersecurity concerns have dominated discussions at the Independent Electoral Commissions' landmark e-voting conference in Cape Town South Africa (SA), as experts call for secure and transparent voting systems. 

The conference, which concludes today, is focusing on the prospect of electronic voting in SA elections. Head of the Cyber and Information Security Centre at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research Dr Jabu Mtsweni has cautioned the IEC to bear in mind a myriad of challenges that are likely to compromise the introduction of the E-Voting System. He addressed the conference on the topic-"Security, Infrastructure and Connectivity support for e-voting in SA".

Cybersecurity  dominates discussions at Cape Town, SA  E-Voting conference

After months of delays and claims of bias, the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), will resume under a new judge.

 This decision ends a prolonged deadlock and addresses allegations of partiality against the former judge, paving the way for a process that could reshape the delicate balance between free speech and national security in Nigeria. Kanu, who leads the IPOB movement advocating for an independent state in Nigeria's southeast, has faced charges including treasonable felony and terrorism since 2015.

Trial of Biafra leader to resume in Nigeria after prolonged delays

Human Rights Watch, says the alleged Rwandan backed M23 rebels and the Alliance Fleuve (AFC) Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has threatened, detained, and attacked journalists, critics, and civil society activists since capturing Goma in eastern DRC in January.

The AFC is a politico-military coalition that includes the M23. It says in North and South Kivu provinces, M23 fighters have raided homes, made death threats, and undermined independent media and the work of civil society groups.
