Southern African Development Community (SADC) Chairperson-elect President Cyril Ramaphosa has welcomed what he described as constructive and outcomes-driven deliberations during an extraordinary virtual SADC leaders' summit on the situation in Madagascar on Wednesday.
Addressing the closing session, Ramaphosa said the regional bloc has agreed to deploy a panel of elders and a mediation reference group to help restore stability in the island nation, following months of political turmoil that saw Madagascar withdraw from its regional responsibilities.
