South Africa (SA) has officially launched the 70-year commemoration of the historic 1956 Women's March. The launch, held at Freedom Park in Pretoria, marks the beginning of a national programme of remembrance and reflection ahead of Women's Month in August.

Government leaders, international organizations and young women reflected on the legacy of the women who marched against apartheid pass laws and the ongoing fight for gender equality.

Kenyan authorities have arrested eight students on suspicion of arson over a fire at a girls' boarding school that killed 16 students .

The fire at the Utumishi Girls' Academy Senior School in Gilgil in west-central Kenya broke out in the early hours of Thursday last week and also injured 79 students.

The Parliament of Ghana has passed the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025 which is also commonly known as the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.

The bill's aim is to criminalize activities related to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Quer practices in Ghana. The bill was passed after it was read for the third time on the floor of Parliament. It  is expected to go through constitutional processes before it can take effect as law after the President's assent.

Parliament of Ghana passes the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025

More than 6.8 million Guineans went to the polls on Sunday in legislative and local government elections that marked a significant milestone in the country's transition back to constitutional rule.

Voters elected members of parliament and municipal councilors in a process seen as the final step in restoring democratic governance. The elections followed the December 2025 presidential vote, in which President Mamady Doumbouya secured a decisive victory.
