SA banks freeze accounts of Zimbabwean Exemption Permit holders

South Africa-based (SA) Capitec Bank has reportedly frozen the accounts of Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP) holders, leaving thousands grappling with disrupted financial transactions and salary payments.

The ZEP was set to expire on the 28th of November 2024- however, SA's Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber announced that the validity of the permits would be extended for an additional 12 months, until November 28, 2025.
