Reparations for the transatlantic slave trade to feature on the Commonwealth summit

South Africa's African National Congress Party's first deputy general secretary Nomvula Mokonyane has extended her heartfelt congratulations to the people of Zambia on the celebration of their 60th anniversary of independence on the 24th of October. Mokonyane was speaking on Thursday at the commemoration ceremony event held at the Zambian High Commission in South Africa's capital, Pretoria. She said under the courageous leadership of former president Kenneth Kaunda, Zambia became a critical base for the ANC in exile. Mokonyane also congratulated the ruling Frelimo party in Mozambique for its victory in the October polls.

President Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo has announced plans to establish a commission that will explore revisions to the country's constitution aiming to potentially remove term limits that will pave the way for his pursuit of a third term. The decision to address the contentious issues of constitutional reform and presidential term limits has potential risks pushing the mineral-rich nation, into further political crisis and unrest. Several opposition political party leaders are opposing this move saying that the current regime is only seeking to prolong its political survival to the detriment of the people's aspirations for fair and transparent governance. The Assembly will take place in South Africa and will include 500 participants from 100 countries. Several South African organisations will be taking part, one of them is Defend Our Democracy.
