Youth leaders from across Eastern and Southern Africa have united in Johannesburg, South Africa, to promote HIV, Sexual and Reproductive Health. The Eastern and Southern Africa region accounts for the largest share of the global burden of HIV among young people and reports some of the highest adolescent pregnancy rates.

The Times Higher Education (THE) World Academic Summit is currently underway in Cape Town, South Africa. This year's summit is exploring how universities can harness different forms of intelligence, including human, artificial and collective intelligence, to help build fairer, more sustainable and future-ready societies. Under the theme "Knowledge, Justice and Futures: Universities in the Age of Intelligence," the summit is examining how higher education institutions can adapt to technological change while responding to emerging challenges and ensuring that artificial intelligence is used ethically and responsibly. US Ambassador to South Africa Leo Brent Bozell has once again found himself at the centre of a diplomatic dispute after being summoned by the South African government, following recent criticism of the government. Bozell was summoned in March, shortly after arriving in the country, for saying that he did not care that South African courts had determined the "Kill the Boer" chant to be protected speech. The latest dispute marks another escalation in the increasingly strained relationship between Pretoria and the United States. Washington remains firm in its concerns over South Africa's policies on land reform, race-based economic policy, farm murders and what the US considers hate speech. Morocco's King Mohammed VI has appointed Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri as the country's prime minister, making her the first woman to hold the position in the North African nation. In a statement, the Royal Palace said the King had tasked El Mansouri, who serves as Urban Planning Minister and Mayor of Marrakesh, with forming a new government. The announcement comes four days after the results of Morocco's parliamentary elections were announced. El Mansouri's centre-right Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) won 97 of the 395 seats in parliament.  Lulu Gaboo spoke to Political Analyst and Middle East and North Africa Researcher, Ibrahim Dean.
