Recent fighting between Ethiopian government forces and Fano militias in northwestern Amhara is putting refugees near the Sudan border at grave risk.

This is according to the Human Rights Watch.

Warring parties to the armed conflict in Amhara are bound by international humanitarian law, prohibiting attacks on civilians and civilian objects.

The Institute for Security Studies, however warns that urgent measures are needed to prevent another crisis in Ethiopia's Tigray region.

It comes as tensions between two TPLF factions rise.
