Over 50 survivors of conflict-related sexual violence have met in Juba to demand answers, two years after they filed the first-ever war crimes case in the world's youngest country's history. As the country marked the second anniversary of South Sudan's National Remembrance Day on Wednesday, it called for accountability.

The survivors were joined by religious leaders, government officials, and civil society members to renew their call for accountability, nearly a decade after they were subjected to violence.

Police in Kenya have closed off key roads leading into the capital, Nairobi, ahead of planned nationwide protests marking two years since the deadly anti-government demonstrations of June 2024. The protests, which were sparked by proposed tax hikes, culminated in the storming of parliament and forced the government to withdraw the controversial Finance Bill.

 More than 80 people were killed, and dozens were injured during the unrest, making it one of the deadliest periods of civil protest in the country's recent history.

Zimbabwe's Senate has overwhelmingly approved a bill allowing President Emmerson Mnangagwa to remain in office until 2030. It also includes a provision for the president to be elected by parliament rather than by direct popular vote.

Supporters of the constitutional amendment say it'll strengthen accountability and foster political stability. Opponents say it's a blatant move by the president to hold on to power.

Zimbabwe's Senate approves a bill that will allow President Mnangagwa to stay in office until 2030

The United States government is set to discontinue the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) ​in South Africa, "following South Africa's failure to make demonstrable progress on policy requests by the administration."

In an emailed statement, the  US State Department says it has "decided to initiate a phased drawdown"  as PEPFAR was never intended to be permanent and that South Africa "is a middle-income country and is more than capable ​of supporting its own health programs.
