View descriptionShare

Africa had a busy election calendar this year with over 20 countries holding presidential or general elections. Seven countries in Southern Africa held elections- where we saw liberation parties either lose power or their majority rule and few disputed elections. In Rwanda, President Paul Kagame was re-elected to a fourth term in office with more than 99 per cent of the vote.

Ending of the 2024 election season, in Ghana- John Mahama made a comeback, beating the country's ruling party candidate and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia. Countries in the Sahel region were also slated to hold elections this year as part of their agreed-upon timetable to transition back to civilian rule but they were postponed.

Lulu Gaboo spoke to the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Friends of East Africa Organisation (EAC), a pro-EAC regional integration civil society organization based in Arusha, Tanzania, Mosses Allan Adam.
