Morocco is set to hold parliamentary elections on Wednesday, 23 September 2026, the country's first legislative vote since widespread, youth-led economic protests erupted in late 2025.

A total of 7,288 candidates from 27 political parties are contesting 395 seats in the House of Representatives. Following the election, King Mohammed VI is expected to appoint the Prime Minister from the party that wins the most seats in parliament.

Amnesty International says M23 fighters have committed serious human rights abuses against artisanal miners in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), while facilitating the trafficking of gold and coltan into neighbouring Rwanda.

 The organisation accuses Rwandan authorities of enabling the trade and says Kigali continues to benefit from DRC's mineral wealth. Amnesty is calling on the African Union and its member states to take stronger action to end what it describes as the likely exploitation and pillage of the DRC's mineral resources, driven by growing international demand for critical minerals.

 Amnesty International accuses M23 of torture, killings at eastern DRC Artisanal Mines

The One Young World Summit, one of the world's largest gatherings of young leaders, is set to return to the African continent for the first time since 2013.

The 2026 summit will take place in Cape Town, South Africa, from 3 to 6 November, bringing together young leaders and prominent figures from around the world. Discussions will focus on five key global challenges: climate justice, peacebuilding, equity, human rights and technology, with delegates expected to develop practical solutions and action plans. 

Organisers say the timing of the summit carries deep historical significance, coinciding with South Africa's commemoration of 50 years since the 1976 Soweto Youth Uprising.

Zambia's just-ended election has seen the Southern African country making international headlines over concerns about post-electoral developments, alleging shrinking democracy, arbitrary arrests of opposition leaders on capital offences, the killing of a former Minister and other negative concerns.

One of the recent records has seen the country being discussed in the European Parliament with the adoption of a  European Parliament Resolution over happenings post-election, which has now tasked the Zambian government to respond.

Our Correspondent in Lusaka, Arthur Davies Sikopo, now gives us the latest from that country.
