Mental health is still taboo in some African countries

The South African Depression and Anxiety Group ( SADAG) says the stigma around mental health in South Africa had improved more than three decades ago when they started their organisation, however, in other African countries mental health is still taboo and sometimes linked to superstitious practices such as witchcraft. . According to a report by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in 2022,  across the African Region, more than 116 million people were already estimated to be living with mental health conditions.
