Malawi's rights group, Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) is strongly rejecting the recent commission report on the tragic plane crash incident involving the death of former Malawi Vice President Saulos Chilima and eight others on the 10th of June this year, labelling it a "sham" and a "waste of taxpayers' money. 

During a media briefing in Blantyre City on Tuesday, CDEDI Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa told the media that he is outraged over the report's handling, raising concerns over the commission's credibility and President Lazarus Chakwera's involvement.

The event organisers at a holiday funfair in Oyo State, Nigeria have been arrested after several children died during a stampede at the fair.

The injured were taken to local hospitals and parents were asked to check for missing persons.

The Commissioner of the South African Border Management Authority (BMA), Dr Michael Masiapato, and the Chief Executive Officer of Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), Ms Mpumi Mpofu, held a media briefing this morning at the OR Tambo International Airport to address key operational updates and collaborative efforts between the BMA and ACSA to ensure seamless border management and security, particularly during the peak holiday season.

The aim of the briefing was also to provide insights into the measures being implemented to enhance the efficiency and security of South Africa's ports of entry, particularly airports, during this critical period.

A survey by Nigeria's National Bureau of Statistics has revealed that more than 2 million people were kidnapped in the West African nation between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, 91% of the kidnappings were attributed to ransom demands, while other cases were due to political, criminal or terrorist motives.

The survey has also found that Nigerians paid a cumulative 1.42 billion dollars to kidnappers within the same period.
