About 40 witnesses have testified before the parliamentary Ad Hoc Committee investigating the military aircraft crash that claimed the lives of Malawi's Vice President, Saulos Chilima, and eight others. The inquiry has revealed that the military Dornier aircraft was not equipped with either a cockpit voice recorder or a flight data recorder, meaning the "black box" data that underpinned the official 2024 findings never existed. Committee Chairperson Walter Nyamilandu says the inquiry is receiving substantial testimony that is helping to strengthen the investigation and establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.
