The Pretoria High Court was scheduled on Friday to hear an application for leave to appeal in the dispute involving the family of Zambia’s former President Edgar Lungu and the Zambian government. This follows last week’s ruling in favour of the Zambian government that Lungu’s remains should be repatriated for burial in Zambia.
However, the Lungu family filed an urgent application for leave to appeal, opposing the judgment. After a brief appearance on Friday morning, the matter was adjourned to Monday. Reports suggest that the two parties are engaged in mediation talks.
Lungu passed away in South Africa in June while receiving medical treatment. Lulu Gaboo spoke to our reporter, Michael Mbewe, for further details.
