The Department of Home Affairs and the Border Management Authority (BMA) say an intelligence-led operation, coordinated through the BMA’s National Border Targeting Centre, led to the interception of a truck at the Beitbridge Port of Entry on the Malawi–South Africa route. Officials say the vehicle was found to be concealing a drug substance identified as ABBA (methaqualone), a key ingredient in the manufacture of mandrax.

In a separate operation on May 27, 2026, the BMA processed the repatriation of 300 Ghanaian nationals. During screening, authorities found that about 90% were undocumented, prompting the Ghanaian Embassy to issue Emergency Travel Certificates to facilitate their return.
