Humanitarian, public health crisis hits Mozambique

The United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission in Congo will send its first team to monitor a ceasefire between Congo's government and the AFC/M23 rebel group in the coming days. This is according to Qatar's foreign ministry following talks in Doha.

Ghana has suspended citizenship applications for members of the African diaspora to review and improve the process, aiming to make it more accessible and user-friendly.

 Since 2016, Ghana has allowed people who can prove African ancestry to apply for citizenship, a policy mainly designed for descendants of those affected by the transatlantic slave trade.

South Africa's (SA) Ad Hoc Committee has decided that President Cyril Ramaphosa will, for now, not appear before the committee to answer questions regarding the establishment or disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team. Instead, Ramaphosa will submit a written response, however, the committee may still summon him to appear if it is not satisfied with his written answers.

 The uMkhonto weSizwe Party has condemned the refusal by Paul O'Sullivan and Brown Mogotsi to appear before the Committee, citing alleged security concerns.

The party says no individual is above the law and all persons summoned to appear before the committee must comply. Meanwhile, businessman Suleiman Carrim is taking the Madlanga Commission to court today in an urgent bid to prevent the inquiry from subpoenaing him to appear before it this Friday.
