Social and Environmental Justice Organisation, The Green Connection, is calling on South Africa's (SA) Parliament to withdraw the National Petroleum Company Bill, arguing that it could deepen the country's dependence on fossil fuels while weakening public oversight and exposing taxpayers to billions of rand in environmental liabilities.

The organisation says the proposed legislation also fails to align with SA's climate commitments.

Green Connection calling on SA to withdraw Petroleum Bill

South Africa's Western Cape High Court has granted an interdict to President Cyril Ramaphosa's urgent bid to temporarily halt Parliament's Section 89 Impeachment Committee, pending a review of the independent panel's Phala Phala report.

Ramaphosa approached the court to halt the impeachment process pending his application to review the Section 89 Independent Panel report, which found that he had a case to answer in the theft on his Phala Phala farm. The report investigates the 2020 theft of foreign currency at Ramaphosa's game farm, examining alleged violations of the Executive Ethics Code, Exchange Control Regulations, and police misconduct.

President Ramaphosa granted interdict to halt impeachment process

Rwandan authorities say they have rescued at least 289 Rwandan victims of human trafficking have been rescued from exploitation in different countries and repatriated home in recent months.

The victims, especially youngsters, had been lured with bogus lucrative job offers by traffickers, but they ended up being exploited,  mostly in Asian countries.  The victims were repatriated between July 2025 and March this year.

Médecins Sans Frontières - MSF, says health workers in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), are struggling to contain the current Ebola outbreak.  

The International medical organisation, has called for an urgent scale-up of the response as the Ebola outbreak becomes the fastest-growing on record. The latest figures show that more than one - thousand people have died in the two months since it was declared a public health emergency of international concern by the World Health Organization.
