Social and Environmental Justice Organisation, The Green Connection, is calling on South Africa's (SA) Parliament to withdraw the National Petroleum Company Bill, arguing that it could deepen the country's dependence on fossil fuels while weakening public oversight and exposing taxpayers to billions of rand in environmental liabilities.
The organisation says the proposed legislation also fails to align with SA's climate commitments.
