Ghana has suspended citizenship applications for members of the African diaspora to review and improve the process, aiming to make it more accessible and user-friendly.
Since 2016, Ghana has allowed people who can prove African ancestry to apply for citizenship, a policy mainly designed for descendants of those affected by the transatlantic slave trade.
