Today on World Diabetes Day, Doctors Without Borders (MSF) is holding a protest at Novo Nordisk's office in Johannesburg, urging the pharmaceutical giant to continue producing affordable human insulin pens.
MSF says Novo Nordisk's recent decision to phase out these pens could lead to a shift towards pricier diabetes treatments, like Ozempic, which would further limit access in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) where over 80% of diabetes cases exist.
Lulu Gaboo spoke to Janice Barnes from T1 International, MSF's partner organization.
