Chad's President, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, is calling for calm and urging hundreds of civilians who fled this week's Boko Haram attack that killed 24 soldiers in the volatile Lake Chad Basin to return to their villages.

Meanwhile, Cameroon says it has reinforced its military presence around Lake Chad following the assault, which once again highlights the persistent security threat facing Cameroon, Chad, Nigeria, and Niger despite years of joint military operations against extremist groups.

Chad President calls for calm following this week's Boko Haram attack 

The Government of Ghana has formally petitioned the African Union (AU) to place xenophobic attacks against African nationals in South Africa on the agenda of the Eighth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting.

In a letter to the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Ghana described the matter as one of "urgent continental interest" requiring collective African action.

In the letter, Ghana's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, expressed deep concern over recurring xenophobic incidents in South Africa, saying they have resulted in loss of life, destruction of property and investments, and growing threats to the safety and well-being of African migrants.

Ghana petitions AU to place xenophobic attacks against African nationals in SA on its agenda

Sudan's armed forces have accused Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) of being involved in a drone strike targeting Khartoum airport.

The North African nation has repeatedly alleged that the UAE backs the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group that has been fighting the national army since 2023, an accusation Abu Dhabi denies.

In its latest claims, Sudan also alleged that Ethiopia allowed drones to be launched from its territory.

 Ethiopia and the UAE have rejected the accusations as baseless, denying any involvement and countering that Sudan's military has itself supported hostile actors and violated Ethiopia's territorial integrity.

Sudan accuses Ethiopia, UAE over Khartoum Airport drone attack

The government of the Ivory Coast has dissolved the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI) following criticism over its handling of the October 2025 presidential election.

Government spokesperson Amadou Coulibaly says the decision was approved after repeated disputes surrounding the commission's independence and management of elections.

He added that the move is intended to pave the way for a new electoral management system and help restore public confidence in the electoral process, to ensure peaceful polls.
