Campaigning for Nigeria's upcoming 2027 presidential and legislative elections has kicked off, ahead of the nationwide ballots scheduled for January 2027. Incumbent President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is seeking a second term, with 18 opposition candidates cleared to contest the elections. The main challengers argue that the APC's nearly 12 years in power have left Africa's most populous country poorer, more indebted and no safer than it was when the party came to power in 2015 under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
