Black Management Forum Investments Company Limited (BMFI) in South Africa officially marks its 30th anniversary this year, having been established in 1996 as the investment vehicle for the Black Management Forum (BMF).

The milestone will be celebrated with a gala dinner tomorrow night (7 May) at The Polo Room, Inanda, in Sandton, Gauteng province, where BMFI will introduce its new brand identity.

Rwandan President Paul Kagame is set to arrive in Botswana for a two-day state visit today, aimed at deepening diplomatic relations between Botswana and Rwanda.

The visit is expected to reinforce longstanding bilateral ties through the signing of several agreements and Memoranda of Understanding designed to strengthen cooperation and mutual engagement. These include frameworks that promote closer collaboration on trade, investment, and mobility, alongside key instruments such as a Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement, a Bilateral Air Services Agreement, and visa waiver arrangements.

The United Nations (UN) has released nearly $98 million in emergency funding to support people affected by conflict and climate-related disasters in Mozambique.

The funding is set to address urgent community needs, including food for families who have lost their crops and income, and also provide communities with safe drinking water. UN Humanitarian Coordinator, Catherine Sozi, says the funding will contribute to the 2026 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan, which requires $534 million to reach 1.7 million people with humanitarian assistance across the country.

A Dutch cruise ship with a hantavirus outbreak on board is set to sail to the Canary Islands, where two crew members, including the vessel's reportedly British doctor, require urgent medical care and are expected to be evacuated by air ambulance.

A third individual, linked to a German national who has died, is also due for evacuation. According to the latest World Health Organisation (WHO) update, seven hantavirus cases have been identified among people on board, two confirmed and five suspected.

The confirmed cases include a Dutch woman who died and a 69-year-old UK national who was evacuated to South Africa for treatment.
