The Malawian government has repatriated 150 of its citizens from South Africa amid concerns over reported xenophobic attacks targeting African migrants. The repatriation forms part of a coordinated voluntary return programme, with the first two buses departing from South Africa's Western Cape province on Saturday, June 6, 2026. The Malawian government says the operation was carried out through a multi-agency effort involving a Malawi Task Team deployed to South Africa under the coordination of the Malawi High Commission there.
