Arrest of senior officials in the SA Police Service could weaken public trust
The Independent Policing Union of South Africa (IPUSA) is concerned that the recent arrest of senior officials from the South African Police Service, SAPS, including the boss of the Crime Intelligence Unit will weaken public trust in law enforcement. Police Minister Senzo Mchunu this past weekend rejected media claims of an impending arrest of National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola. The speculation arose from allegations of irregular procurement involving crime intelligence buildings. The National Prosecuting Authority's Investigating Directorate Against Corruption has backed the minister's statement, dismissing the reports.
