The operation to bring illegal miners who remain underground at an unused mine shaft in South Africa's North West province has begun. The Stilfontein mine shaft 11 has been a talking point for many days and left community members eager to assist.
With the appointment of the task team by Police Minister Senzo Mchunu the community says they have been left out of the process. Community leaders say they are worried about the miners underground as they are not being provided with food and water.
