An estimated 1.3 million people acquired HIV in 2023 globally. In South Africa, the Centre for the AIDS Programme of Research is optimistic that a cure may be found in the next five to ten years. Africa Health Research Institute says young women and adolescents across the African continent continue to bear the brunt of HIV/AIDS

Two media‑freedom organisations, Moxii Africa (formerly Media Monitoring Africa) and the Campaign for Free Expression, have intervened in a High Court case challenging automatic publication bans on reporting sexual‑offence and extortion cases. The organisations argue that the bans are unconstitutional, saying they restrict media freedom and undermine the autonomy of survivors who may wish to speak publicly.


South Africa’s Minister of Justice has withdrawn opposition to the challenge, leaving the Court to determine the matter. The organisations are seeking to have the relevant legal provisions declared invalid, paving the way for more open reporting while still protecting the rights and identities of complainants.

Healthcare Workers 4 Palestine - South Africa has strongly condemned recent attacks on civilian sites and health facilities in Iran, saying they constitute violations of international humanitarian law. The organisation states that the strikes, allegedly carried out by the United States and Israel on 28 February 2026, damaged several health centres, including hospitals, and resulted in civilian casualties.

Healthcare Workers 4 Palestine - South Africa condemns attacks on civilian and health facilities in Iran

A family in Ghana is pleading for assistance in locating their missing relative, who is believed to have been fighting in Ukraine on behalf of Russia. The family says the last time they were in contact with him was at the end of February last year, when he told them he was going for two weeks of military training.

Since then, all attempts to reach him have failed. When the family called both his Ghanaian and Russian phone numbers, they received messages stating that the numbers do not exist.
