Ghana is hosting the 23rd International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa, ICASA 2025 for the first time.

The five-day conference which begins today is organised by the Society for AIDS in Africa under the theme - Africa in Action: Catalysing Integrated and Resilient Health Systems for Sustainable Responses to end HIV, Other Infectious Diseases and emerging threats.

Benin's president Patrice Talon says the "situation is completely under control" in his country, after the government thwarted an attempted coup thanks to loyalist soldiers with support from Nigerian forces. A group of soldiers announced Sunday on state television that they had ousted President Talon. That sparked a swift response from loyal army forces, joined by air strikes and troop deployments from neighbouring Nigeria. Beninese military and security sources said around a dozen soldiers had been arrested, including those behind the coup bid. Benin President: Coup Foiled, Country Under Control

Parents of the school children who were kidnapped in Nigeria two weeks ago is accusing the authorities of dragging their feet to find their children.

The Christian Association of Nigeria says 303 children and 12 school staff were kidnapped by gunmen at St Mary's Catholic boarding school in the state of Niger. Fifty pupils managed to escape in the following hours, but since then there has been no news on the whereabouts or conditions of the other children, some as young as six, and the missing school staff.

Parents claim they are being told to exercise patience.
