More than 2.3 million children in Zambia have returned to school following the government's decision to introduce free education, a policy introduced after President Hakainde Hichilema came into office in 2021.
Education Minister Douglas Syakalima says the policy is rescuing children from the streets and helping shape a more disciplined and productive generation.
But while access has expanded dramatically, questions remain about quality, resources, and sustainability.
