As South Africa marks 50 years since the Soweto Uprising and commemorates Youth Day 2026, we reflect on the enduring legacy of those who fought for freedom and dignity. We speak to renowned businessman, author and former Chief Executive Officer of South Africa's Public Investment Corporation, Elias Masilela. Nineteen years ago, Masilela published a memoir titled, Number 43 Trelawney Park, KwaMagogo, which captures a critical slice of anti-apartheid history from a unique perspective. In the book, Masilela tells the colourful story of what it was like growing up in the iconic home, which was owned by his late mother, Rebecca Makgomo Masilela.
