World Environment Day

View descriptionShare

As the world marks World Environment Day today under the theme "Drive Systemic Change for a Sustainable Future," experts are highlighting the overlooked environmental impact of food waste in South Africa. According to Ozzy Nel, Chief Operating Officer at SA Harvest, more than ten million tonnes of food are wasted in the country each year, much of it still edible. With over eighteen million people food insecure, Nel says the problem is not food scarcity but a broken distribution system, urging urgent reform of food systems as part of climate action. To speak to us more about this, Ozzy Nel joined Peter Ndoro.
