World Conference on Lung Health Sees Launch of Powerful New AI TB Platform

Zambia for the first time is set to host the Continental Energy and Infrastructure Investment Forum (CEIIF) 2026, marking a historic milestone for the flagship Pan-African platform dedicated to advancing energy security, infrastructure development and regional industrialisation. Scheduled to take place from the second to the fifth of February in Lusaka, the Forum will convene two days of high-level conferencing and structured business-to-government engagements, followed by two days of strategic site visits to prioritize energy and infrastructure assets across the country. South Sudan's fragile peace process is under renewed strain after the country's main armed opposition group claimed it has captured the strategic town of Panyume and called on its forces to advance towards the capital, Juba. The government says its troops repelled the attack, but the latest fighting has raised fresh fears of a wider escalation in a country already facing deep humanitarian distress, mass displacement and stalled political reforms. The developments come as South Sudan approaches 15 years since independence, with national elections tentatively scheduled for later this year the first since the country broke away from Sudan in 2011. To help us understand what this moment means for peace, civilians and the region, we're joined by South Sudanese human rights lawyer and civil society activist, Rajab Mohandis, who is also a signatory to the country's 2018 revitalised peace agreement. A Belgian court is considering whether to prosecute the sole surviving official allegedly involved in the 1961 assassination of Congolese independence leader Patrice Lumumba. The president of the court has announced that a decision will be published on 17 March 2026, on whether the indictment by the federal prosecutor will be admitted and if an oral public trial will be held. To help us understand the significance of this hearing, and what it could mean for the Lumumba family, joining in from Belgium by Wolfgang Kaleck, their legal counsel.
