South Africa's Defence Minister and Military Veterans, Angie Motshekga, has confirmed the phased withdrawal of the South African National Defence Force from the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo who formed part of SAMIDRC peace mission.

Briefing the media in Pretoria on Sunday, the Minister outlined the outcomes of the recent DRC Summit of Heads of State and Government, held on March 13th, 2025, which led to the decision to transition from military intervention to political and diplomatic solutions.

Several civil society organisations led by the Aids Healthcare Foundation gathered in Johannesburg, South Africa, to call on the European Union( EU) to stop blocking Health Equity ahead of the final negotiations of the World Health Organisation Pandemic Treaty. They say the treaty cannot move forward until the Pathogen Access and Benefit Sharing ( PABS) Annex is finalized.   The Annex determines how pathogen samples are shared and whether all countries benefit from vaccines.
