This morning, we shine a spotlight on the gender-based violence and femicide in Kenya.

Few days ago, human rights activits took to the streets of Capital Nairobi again, in a demonstration againt the killing of women in that country and a demand for the government to declare femicide a national crisis.

The peaceful protest was dispersed when police fired tear gas and arrested a number of activists.

The East African country has seen a rise in gender-based violence and women killed by their partners, in September this year a Ugandan athlete and Olympian Rebecca Cheptegei died after being set alight by a man she knew in Eldoret city, allegedly over land ownership dispute.

Zaina Kombo, An Advocate at the High Court of Kenya and also serves at Amnesty International Kenya as a campaign Manager working on Equality and anti-Discrimination joined Aurelie Kalenga.
