WHO Report: Climate Health Investments Could Save 1.6 Million Lives and Deliver $24 for Every Dollar Invested
Climate change is increasingly recognised as a major threat to human health. But a new World Health Organization report says investing in measures to protect people from its effects could also deliver substantial economic benefits. The report estimates that six priority actions could save around 1.6 million lives every year, prevent 17 billion tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions and generate trillions of dollars in economic and fiscal benefits. It also estimates that every dollar invested could deliver 24 dollars in benefits. For more on the findings and what they mean for governments, we're joined from Geneva by Dr Frank Pega, the World Health Organization's Technical Officer for Climate and Health Economics and lead author of the report.
